The essentials of playing Canfield Solitaire

Make Canfield Solitaire your next activity in the game library. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Use the example below to understand a decision. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Try a more deliberate round

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

What you need to achieve

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. The example below illustrates a decision.

Making your moves

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Follow the example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Take a moment to compare.

Check this before moving on

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
