The Klondike Solitaire playbook
Open Klondike Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Look at what changes after your first action. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Use the example below to understand a decision.
One deck; draw-one or draw-three stock; waste recycling. Free solo play, no wagering.
Practice with a purpose
Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Refer to the controls when needed.
The objective of a round
Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Take a moment to understand the current position.
Step by step
- Build down in alternating colours; kings fill empty columns. Valid ordered runs move together.
- Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
- Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
- Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.
Keyboard and screen controls
Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.
A useful example
A red 6 fits a black 7, not another red 7. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Choose a deliberate next step.
A common point of confusion
Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
