Know the goal in Tic-Tac-Toe

Bring your attention to one round of Tic-Tac-Toe. Complete a row, column or diagonal of three marks. If the board fills without a line, the round is a draw. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Take a closer look while playing

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Notice the feedback after each input.

Understand the aim

Complete a row, column or diagonal of three marks. If the board fills without a line, the round is a draw. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Take a moment to understand the current position.

From the start of a round

  1. Player 1 places a cross in an empty cell.
  2. Player 2 places a circle in another empty cell.
  3. Take turns, watching both your winning opportunities and the opponent’s threats.
  4. The board stops accepting moves when a player wins or the game is drawn.

Using the playing area

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

Learn from a sample situation

Two crosses in the top row threaten a win in the remaining top-row cell. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Take a moment to compare.

Watch out for this

You cannot replace a mark that is already on the board. A different version of the game may use a different rule. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
