Memory Pairs: rules and examples

Try Memory Pairs at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Try a more deliberate round

Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow. Refer to the controls when needed.

The objective of a round

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. The example below illustrates a decision.

The order of play

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

The controls to know

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Use the control method described here for this activity. A new-round button replaces the current round.

Follow the example

Turn over one card, remember its position, then choose a second. A matching pair stays found; a mismatch is hidden again. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Look for the relevant detail.

Notice this detail

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
